Linden Foods tastes success with award
CO TYRONE meat processor Linden Foods, part of Fane Valley Co-op, has scooped an industry award for a product found on the shelves of a supermarket chain in Great Britain.
The Dungannon-based firm's Chicken with Asparagus, sold in Morrisons as part of its Bistro range, was named best poultry dish in the Meat Management Industry awards.
Linden Foods' managing director Gerry Maguire said the accolade was "testament to the creativity, hard work, diligence, and dedication of the new product development, technical and operational teams in Dungannon".
The gong is the latest award for the company, which in recent years has been named Manufacturer Of The Year while its staff have been heralded for management skills.
In 2010 the company, which employs more than 700 people, opened new facilities at its Dungannon site.
A team in its innovation centre has focused on product development, including its restaurant-style dishes such as the award-winning Chicken with Asparagus.
It also seen its turnover nearly treble in the past decade, and in 2012, operating profit reached £4.7m, 79% more than a year earlier.
Linden Foods is one of the UK's leading processors of beef, lamb and rose veal products. Customers include retailers and companies within the catering trade throughout the UK and Ireland, such as Marks & Spencer and Lidl, as well as Morrisons.
