Macklins open new care home
A new family-run nursing home in Co Antrim is set to welcome its first patients today.
Parkmanor on Thornhill Road in Dunmurry is the fourth nursing home to be established by the Macklin family.
Managing director Mary Macklin said the home, which has room for 78 residents, would ultimately provide jobs for 120 staff.
The family has said it set out to create a nursing home with the comforts of a hotel.
Mrs Macklin said: “It’s very different from other nursing homes. It’s a fabulous building built over four floors.”
The ground floor includes the kitchens and living room areas, while there are two nursing floors and a floor for EMI (elderly and mentally infirm) patients.
Mrs Macklin said the home would charge £600 per week for a room, with a rate of £630 for ensuite rooms.
The family also owns care homes at North Parade in south Belfast, in Ratheane in Coleraine, Co Londonderry — where a new wing was recently opened — and Leabank in Ballycastle, Co Antrim.
The family also owns the Malone Lodge Hotel and Apartments, south Belfast.
The kitchen of the new home will be headed up by Dean Butler, chef at Malone Lodge Hotel.
