Manufacturers bounce back from recession
First in, first out. That's certainly how it seems for the manufacturing industry which, having been one of the first to feel the full effects of the downturn, has put in a remarkable recovery.
UK factory orders climbed 5% in March, well above expectations of a 6% fall. And 27% of companies are expecting to lift output in the coming months.
The CBI, which carried out the survey, said the sector is picking up pace but nodded the head at the CPI data by pointing out that inflationary pressures are 'acute'.
Still, it's a strong result and bodes well for Northern Ireland's manufacturing sector.
The construction sector must be looking on enviously. Having fallen off sharply at the start of the credit crunch, it can only dream of such a bounce back.
