Minister Jonathan Bell warns axing energy scheme 'will cost jobs'
Jobs will be lost when a green energy scheme is scrapped, Enterprise Minister Jonathan Bell has admitted.
He was addressing the closure of a number of renewable energy schemes here during what is likely to be his last time in front of the enterprise committee as minister.
Programmes affected include the Northern Ireland Renewables Obligation and Renewable Heat Incentive scheme. The schemes are to be closed following a £30m overspend by Mr Bell's department. Firms that manufacture and install the equipment claim they will lose millions of pounds, and that up to 2,000 jobs could go.
Mr Bell said Northern Ireland had "reached the limits" of what it could afford, but added that a range of renewable energy targets had been exceeded.
