New £1.5m fund will help upskill workers
Employment and Learning Minister Stephen Farry will today launch a new £1.5m skills collaboration fund.
The fund will focus on employer-led projects and on encouraging employees to work on improving their skills.
The employer-led element aims to create opportunities, particularly for people under 24, in businesses with fewer than 250 employees.
The Minister said the fund was designed to encourage employers to create jobs and improve the skills of their workforce.
He said: "This will assist in developing a properly-skilled workforce, help people fulfil their potential, enhance their employability and equip the local economy to meet the opportunities and challenges of globalisation."
He said he also hoped the fund would encourage collaboration between employers, colleges, training organisations and his department.
The second element of the fund aims to support employees entering skills competitions, including the 'skills Olympics', Worldskills.
Financial incentives will be made available to colleges and employers who actively support skills competitions.
