New NI chamber president Graham in Stormont talks call

By John Mulgrew

Talks must resume after the General Election next month in order to get Stormont back up and running, the new president of the Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce and Industry has said.

Ellvena Graham, former head of Ulster Bank in Northern Ireland, is replacing Ulster Carpets boss Nick Coburn in the role.

And Allstate managing director John Healy has also been elected as vice-president of the business group.

Ms Graham was born in 1963 in Co Down and has two older brothers. Her father was a businessman.

"I am delighted to have been elected as president of the Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a role which carries with it a responsibility to support business growth," she said.

"It is vital that following the Westminster elections on June 8, talks will resume between our political parties so that the political institutions can get up and running again."

Welcoming both appointments, NI Chamber chief executive, Ann McGregor, said:

"I would like to congratulate Ellvena and John on their election and thank the outgoing president Nick Coburn for his leadership and support."
