New premium pet food gets bark of approval from top dogs

By Staff Reporter

A Co Tyrone pet food business has invested £100,000 and created three jobs with the launch of a new premium dog food.

Nutts About Pets in Omagh said it had worked for two years on the formula for its dry dog food Ambassador. The job boost brings the workforce up to 20.

And the firm has plans to recruit another 10 staff later in the year.

Basil Thompson, who set up Nutts About Pets in 2004, said: "Ambassador is the complete dog food for working, sporting and active breeds and will lead to healthy, happy dogs. People who love their dogs, whether they are a competitive dog or a family pet, will want to give them the very best and we believe we have found that with Ambassador."

He said the company had tested the product with "the crop of the dog breeding world", including Crufts Champions and Irish and British Field Trial Champions. The company also makes cat food and sells pet accessories.

It has premises in Co Offaly in the Republic.

The Ambassador product line has been endorsed by Dungiven's Shauna McGroarty, a breeder of champion dogs, including a Crufts winner.
