New scheme to improve supply for defence firms

Another Northern Ireland company is hoping to improve efficiency, quality and delivery times by taking part in a UK-wide business excellence programme for the aerospace, defence and security sectors.

The 21st Century Supply Chains scheme is organised by ADS, the body for aerospace, defence and security firms.

At the most recent SC21 awards event at the Titanic building last week, seven Northern Ireland companies picked up silver and bronze accolades.

Silver award holders in Northern Ireland are Moyola Precision Engineering and JW Kane Precision Engineering.

Last week Dontaur Engineering, DHL Global Forwarding (UK), Vulcanium Metals International, New Breed Logistics, Denroy Plastics and All Metal Services all picked up a bronze award.

Established in 1954, Springco NI Ltd, based in Portadown manufactures high quality springs supplying companies in aerospace, valve manufacturing, offshore and under-water, medical, power station and nuclear industries all over the world.

Springco has now secured the assistance of sponsor firm TEC Concepts Ltd to enter into the SC21 process.

Northern Ireland is the best performing region in the UK's £27bn aerospace industry per head of population thanks to the likes of Bombardier and scores of smaller supply chain firms.
