Northern Ireland start-up firm seeks £20,000 investment

By Clare Weir

Online global funders are being invited to contribute £20,000 to a new start-up based at the Northern Ireland Science Park.

Takker, which makes a hand-powered device for hanging pictures, mirrors and other items onto any hard wall without the use of drills, nails, plugs or screws, is the first company from Northern Ireland to be listed on the Kickstarter fundraising platform.

The company was founded by Damien McGrane, who has appeared on the RTE version of Dragons' Den.

People can contribute between £1 and £115 in exchange for products or just to help the firm on its way.

Mr McGrane is working with well-known Northern Ireland firms Denroy, which will be manufacturing the product, and Whale Pumps, which helped with the design and prototype.

With £4,000 already raised, the money will go towards producing the first 5000 units and tooling for the recyclable packaging.

"The Kickstarter funding will unlock the next and most demanding process," he said.
