Northern Ireland TV licences set to increase
Communications regulator Ofcom is seeking applications for licences to run local TV channels in another 11 locations, including Londonderry and Limavady/north coast, before the closing date of January 7, 2014.
Ofcom has already awarded 19 local TV licences, with the first channel, Estuary TV (Grimsby), expected to launch in November. Northern Visions (NvTv) was awarded a new local TV licence for Belfast in October 2012.
The new local TV services will be broadcast at a city or sub-regional level and will be available on Channel 8 on the Freeview platform in Northern Ireland. Operators may also wish to offer their services on satellite, cable and online.
