Nursery chain expansion to create 60 jobs

The owners of a new nursery in south Belfast have said their latest opening will create up to 60 new full and part-time jobs.

Rascals Day Nurseries is opening an eighth branch on the Upper Lisburn Road in Dunmurry which will cater for children from six weeks old and will include an after-school club.

Work is set to start soon on renovating Whitefield House, the building where the new nursery will be located.

Managing directors Roger and Lynne D'Arcy said the premises would be the first nursery to open on Saturdays to cater for the increasing number of parents who include the weekend in their standard working week.

The building is also going to serve as a centre of excellence for the company's occupational therapy department.

Rascals currently has 700 children in its care and around 200 staff. This latest expansion with see up to 60 new jobs and spaces for 140 children.

Mr D'Arcy said Rascals was proving successful despite the downturn. "Childcare is not immune to the current downturn and many nurseries are suffering. However Rascals continue to provide a winning formula."
