Outsourcing company to open new Sky call centre

By Margaret Canning

Outsourcing company Firstsource has announced it is opening a new call centre in Belfast to deal with calls from Sky broadband users.

The centre at Oyster House in Donegall Square will employ 300 people who previously worked for Sky in another outsourcing company.

Indian-owned Firstsource said that it had already been working on a Sky contract for 10 years but that a new deal had been reached for the next three years.

A spokesman for Firstsource said: "This new business growth for Firstsource is an extension of the company's strategic partnership with the UK's largest entertainment and communications company."

The new centre is close to Firstsource's other Belfast premises on Linenhall Street.

Firstsource also employs over 1,000 staff in Londonderry - who also work on the Sky account - and is set to open another contact centre in Cardiff in June.

In total, the company currently employs 1,700 people in Northern Ireland.

Sean Canning, Firstsource's Head of Customer Management, said: "As a rapidly growing company in the UK, Firstsource offers excellent career development opportunities ... and people joining Firstsource over the next few months who have the right skills and talent can expect to enhance their career path with Firstsource."

Kerri-Anne Miller, Director of Customer Service at Sky, said: "We've got more customers than ever before ... so the addition of two centres in Belfast and Cardiff will ensure we are continuing to provide first-class customer service."
