Pay bills 'on the go' with new bank app

The volume of people turning to their mobile phones to sort out their finances "on the go" is set to surge over this bank holiday weekend, a bank predicts.

Barclays said it has already seen large spikes of activity over recent bank holidays, with a 300% increase in people logging into its Pingit app over the Easter and early May bank holidays compared with normal weekends.

Pingit allows users to send and receive cash to anyone with a UK current account and mobile phone number, without having to share bank details. Over £535m worth of transfers were made over the Easter and May bank holiday weekends using Barclays mobile app.
