Ship fit-out firm to cruise through 2012 as it wins £4m worth of work

By Clare Weir

Co Antrim fit-out firm Mivan has announced over £4m worth of work on cruise ships for 2012 in Europe.

The largest of the contracts is the £1.7m refit of the Crystal Symphony vessel for Crystal Cruises.

The job will take place over a fortnight in June in Hamburg.

This is the second contract Mivan has secured with Crystal Cruises following the successful fit-out of the retail areas of the Crystal Serenity in May 2011.

Mivan made the announcement at Cruise Shipping Miami, the world's largest cruise ship conference and exhibition, where the company was part of the Northern Ireland Marine Industry Stand, organised by Invest NI.

Other notable contracts include Mivan's first contract with Pullmantur Cruises for the refit of the MV Horizon as well as the Saga Sapphire refit for Saga Shipping.

Mivan delivered over £10m in the cruise ship sector during 2011, working for long standing clients Princess Cruises, Cunard Line and Carnival UK.

The firm's business development director Stephen Mills said Mivan has got 2012 off to a great start.

"The cruise ship market continues to be an integral part of Mivan's business," he said.

"The recent success the company has enjoyed in this sector is a testament to Mivan's project management teams who are well known to our client base and fully understand the time pressures and attention to detail required in this environment."

This year has also seen Mivan open an office in Southampton.
