Shoe store steps into Victoria Square

Belfast's Victoria Square has welcomed a new retailer, the eighth arrival in the past year.

Footwear and accessories retailer Dune is the latest new store to open in the centre, with fashion retailers Mexx, USC, Bank, Guess, Mimco, watch retailer Swatch and restaurant Wagamama all arriving over the last 12 months.

The new outlet is said to house the largest collection of Dune footwear in Northern Ireland.

Victoria Square's management team says it is further evidence the shopping complex is bucking the recent trend of poor retail performance. It reports a 4% increase in footfall on 2010 levels and a 3% increase on 2010 sales, as of October 2011, with both footfall and sales up every month on last year, except in October.

Centre manager Hugh Black said: "We are thrilled that Dune has chosen Victoria Square as the location for their largest standalone store in Northern Ireland.

"As we approach Christmas, we are optimistic that Victoria Square and its retailers will trade well this year. We expect our upward trend for both footfall and sales to continue in December."

Zoe Brookes, head of retail for The Dune Group, said: "Our first store opened in Northern Ireland in 2002 and over the last nine years, Dune has established a very loyal customer base.

"We are very excited to continue to invest in and develop the brand, in Northern Ireland with the opening of this high profile new store."
