Sky's the limit for charity after Grant Thornton's run

By Staff Reporter

It's become one of the most anticipated events in the business calendar - even if it does involve wearing shorts and a T-shirt instead of formal wear.

The annual Grant Thornton Runway Run took place at George Best Belfast City Airport on Thursday.

And 600 business people took to the tarmac to demonstrate their running prowess while raising money for Grant Thornton's charity partner, the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Hireco TL won the women's category of the 5k event, while Danske Bank made it a hat-trick and claimed the mixed category prize for the third year in a row. Meanwhile, Camlin Group claimed the men's prize.

Richard Gillan, managing partner of Grant Thornton in Northern Ireland, explained there had been huge demand for the event: "Despite an increase in the number of available spaces, the event sold out in record time, highlighting just how popular it has become in a short period of time," he said.

"From legal and financial firms, to manufacturing companies and public sector organisations, the Grant Thornton Runway Run provides an ideal platform for a large number of businesses across Northern Ireland to network in the unique atmosphere generated at the airport.

"Of course, there's also the important competitive element to the race and our congratulations go to Hireco TL, Camlin Group and Danske Bank for winning their respective categories."
