A new software research and development company is to open in Belfast this week with the creation of 15 new jobs.

Enterprise minister Arlene Foster announced the launch of Mediasmiths Forge, which will represent £640,000 each year in salaries.

Established by media technology company Mediasmiths, the new facility will act as a hub for innovation, enabling the company to offer products and packages which solve technical, operational and business problems across the media industry.

Invest Northern Ireland has offered £75,000 of support towards the investment project.

Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster said that the digital media sector is an important and growing industry which has the potential to deliver significant economic benefits to Northern Ireland.

"The Mediasmiths Forge project will deliver over £640,000 annually in salaries making it exactly the type of high quality investment that Invest NI is focused on securing," she said.

"Clearly, Mediasmiths has recognised the benefits that Northern Ireland has to offer investors seeking a cost competitive location with a strong specialist skills base that can support global business growth."

Mediasmiths' main office is located at the Ugli Campus in the White City media village in London, opposite BBC Television Centre.

The firm already works with some of the biggest brands in the media industry.
