Soroptimists' president praised for securing major conference
A Northern Ireland woman who has helped bring a major conference worth over £2m to Belfast has been hailed as an ambassador for the city.
Maureen Maguire, the recently elected federation president of Soroptimist International Ltd for Great Britain and Ireland, has been working on bringing the organisation's major conference to these shores since 2009.
Mrs Maguire joined the organisation in 1989 and took part in Belfast Visitor and Convention Bureau's ambassador programme to help secure the major international event, which will take place over three days from October 25-27 at major venues and will bring 2,000 delegates to the city.
A total of 6,000 bed nights will be secured in hotels.
Tourism Minister Arlene Foster said that the event will be a further boost for Northern Ireland in 2012, a year in which it is hoped that tourism, conference business and hospitality will help vastly boost the economy.
