Specialist wine firm celebrates winning top award

A Co Down wine merchant has been recognised as one of the UK’s best specialist retailers at a major competition designed to increase awareness of Chilean wine.

Crossgar-based JNwine.com, which supplies many restaurants and hotels in Ireland, won the regional category at the Independent Wine Merchant Bicentenary Promotion 2010. As part of the prize, a representative from JNwine.com will join six other merchants from across the UK on an exclusive buying trip in Chile.

Organised by Wines of Chile, an industry-led body which promotes the country’s vineyards and produce, the competition celebrates the 200th anniversary of Chilean independence. It challenged independent wine merchants across the UK to encourage more wine drinkers to try Chilean wines and design a marketing strategy to enhance sales around Chile’s |National Day.

JNwine.com managing director James Nicholson said the company’s success was down to the knowledge of his staff and |quality of the wines.

“We’ve been passionate advocates for Chilean wines for many years and being recognised by Wines of Chile is a great honour. The country is home to some of the best independent vineyards and is regularly counted amongst the world’s finest wine-producing regions.

“We travel extensively and take time to get to build a strong relationship with each of the winemakers we work with. There is a passion and intelligence in Chilean winemaking that is hard to match and that is evident in each bottle that we bring back for our customers.

“Our staff have worked hard to rise to this challenge and our customers have responded positively with sales of Chilean wine increasing by 8% in the lead up to Chile’s National Day. Hopefully our customers have been inspired too and will take away some new ideas for their next choice of wine.”

JNwine.com’s range of Chilean wines also features in its recently launched Christmas portfolio.
