Starbucks first for Newtownards as shopping centre opens new branch

By Staff Reporter

US coffee giant Starbucks is set to open its first store in Newtownards at Ards Shopping Centre. The 2,550 sq ft coffee shop, which will seat 80 people, is to open later in the spring and will be designed by Starbucks' own agency.

There are already around 20 Starbucks in Northern Ireland.

It's part of a £7m redevelopment in the centre with a larger 40,000 sq ft unit split into three, with TK Maxx, B&M Bargains and now Starbucks taking up the units.

Ards Shopping Centre is owned by Belfast Office Properties, whose directors include Dublin-based Paddy McKillen and Padraig Drayne.

A mobile phone accessory retailer TopGift is also opening in a 280 sq ft unit, which opens early next month.

Paul Devlin, asset manager of Belfast Office Properties, said: "We are delighted to have signed Starbucks and welcome another international brand to Ards and further grow our food and beverage offer.

"The signing of Starbucks signals a strong start to 2017, which follows an exceptional 2016, and Ards continues to develop and maintain its position as the region's strongest performing shopping destination."

Gary Martin, who acted on behalf of centre managers Lambert Smith Hampton, added: "Starbucks bring a great reputation and quality to the line-up.

"We are thrilled to have secured them and delivered the ideal tenant on this brief."
