The green dream is a reality in eco house

Sustainable building methods are a key driver for the green economy, it's been claimed.

Businesses from across Ireland discussed how working together could promote growth in renewable construction during an event at Northern Ireland's first zero carbon house outside Armagh.

Energy group Smart ECO Hub, which aims to develop a cluster of innovation along the M1 corridor, hosted the event.

Ciaran McGrath, a technical manager at Smart ECO Hub, said firms can work together to promote sustainable technologies.

"The M1 Energy cluster will support local businesses through the delivery of product and technology innovation. Joining the Smart ECO Hub will help create employment and growth in the energy sector."

John McClatchey, owner of Zero Carbon House, said: "People now understand that they can completely avoid being at the hands of the volatile energy markets by buying homes which are energy efficient."
