British Council Northern Ireland - the UK's international cultural relations organisation - has appointed David Alderdice as its new director.

David, originally from Belfast, has worked for the British Council for more than 20 years and held a number of high profile roles within the organisation.

Most recently he was Director of Programmes for South East Europe.

Before that he reopened the operation in Iraq and has also worked in Bangladesh, Thailand, Argentina and the Netherlands.

Mr Alderdice said: "My job will be to ensure that Northern Ireland continues to be a key component of the British Council's global mission in offering our unique experience and expertise across the world and also in bringing international experience and expertise to Northern Ireland."
