Web security conference worth £1m to economy

A major web security conference is expected to generate around £1m for the economy when it takes place in Belfast in May.

And OWASP AppSecEU 2017's arrival in the city is likely to confirm Belfast as cyber security capital of Europe, its organisers have said.

The event, which was previously held in Rome, Amsterdam and Athens, is one of the industry's biggest international conferences and is expected to attract 800 people.

The event, aimed at IT professionals of all levels of experience, takes place at the Waterfront Hall and at the Hilton Hotel in Belfast

The conference is run by the Open Web Application Security Project - or OWASP - an organisation which aims to improve web security by sharing information.

OWASP's Belfast division has more than 700 members.

The conference takes place on May 11 and 12.
