Westwind Turbines and Fast Engineering honoured for export business

Two Antrim companies have won awards for export at the Antrim Borough Council's Community Excellence Awards.

Renewable energy firm Westwind Turbines won the Mayor's Award for Outstanding Achievement while Fast Engineering, a firm that produces liquid storage for oil and chemical clean-up, as well as aid agency work, won the Randox Business Award.

Fast Engineering developed the 'FASTANK' – initially for the UN Decade of Water and Sanitation – and now exports its water containment units worldwide. The firms generated £5m exports.

Westwind Turbines exports wind turbines to Australia, Europe and Asia from its Aldergrove factory.

Geraldine Girvan of Antrim Borough Council, said: "Firms in Antrim Borough are taking great strides in export – these awards are deserved recognition of the innovative thinking they have applied to growing their sales."

Seamus Connolly of Fast Engineering said: "Our continued investment in research and development, as well as reaching out to new markets, has enabled us to sustain a vibrant manufacturing hub here in Antrim."
