Wetherspoons opens doors of 800th outlet

JD Wetherspoon will open its 800th outlet in another milestone for the chain that started as a pub in London in 1979. The company has spent £2.1m developing The Unicorn Hotel in North Yorkshire, creating 50 jobs. Chairman Tim Martin, who opened the chain's first pub in 1979, said the company aimed to double its tally of pubs to 1,600 in coming years, creating more than 30,000 jobs in the process.
