Whale of a time for engineers at work
An engineering company in Bangor has secured a place in the Sunday Times’ list of the best small companies to work for.
Whale — also known as Munster Simms Engineering — employs 100 people specialising in drainage for the leisure marine, caravan and shower industries.
The company was the only Northern Ireland business to be included in the small companies list, a section in a wider list of Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to work for, published on Sunday.
The survey analyses how employees are treated as individuals and as part of a team and the quality of their workplace.
Jonathan Austin, founder of Best Companies, congratulated Whale on their “outstanding achievement” and added: “An engaged workforce is essential as organisations move out of the recession and into a more stable economic situation. No doubt many organisations have tackled redundancies and rapid change this year. But organisations like Whale that have kept on engaging their staff and making sure they are involved in the business will be in a good position for the future and should be congratulated for their efforts.”
Patrick Hurst, managing director of Whale, said: “This recognition comes at an exciting time for the company as Whale sees a stream of new products being launched over the next two years.”
Mike Mills, chairman, added: “Very few companies achieve this accolade and it is a testimony to outstanding and open leadership in the business, coupled with the determination by all employees to succeed in very tough times.”
The Sunday Times will list the best medium and large companies this Sunday.
