£50m funding deal to build 800 social homes

By Emma Deighan

The construction of more than 800 social homes here over the next two years is one step closer as a £50m funding package between Barclays and Radius Housing is agreed.

It is one of the largest funding agreements in the social housing sector in recent years and will bring to life social housing provider Radius' list of projects including the £35m scheme at the former Visteon site in Belfast, where more than 244 homes will be built.

Radius chief executive John McLean said: "The funding will not only help tackle housing stress in areas of high demand but will also address employment and well-being needs, making communities more resilient in these challenging times... we value our partnership with Barclays, whose working knowledge in this sector meant they have understood our vision for diverse and vibrant communities."
