Ballymena store to close as retailer Evans downsizes
Plus size clothing retailer Evans is shutting one of its three Northern Ireland stores, the Belfast Telegraph can reveal.
Evans, which is part of Sir Philip Green's Arcadia Group, will close in Ballymena's Fairhill Shopping Centre in April.
It has 26 stores throughout the UK, with another two Northern Ireland units in Belfast's CastleCourt Shopping Centre and in Newtownards.
The news of the closure follows reports that Sir Philip was seeking a buyer for his fashion empire, which includes Topshop/Topman, Dorothy Perkins, Wallis, Miss Selfridge and Burtons.
Mr Green was urged to give the pensions regulator oversight of any takeover deal.
Frank Field, chairman of the Commons Work and Pensions Committee, has written to the billionaire retail tycoon arguing that a review of any deal would "reassure pension scheme members that they were not being hung out to dry".
