Bedwin Soft Furnishing opens new factory site with help from £250k investment

By Margaret Canning

A family firm in Co Down which specialises in soft furnishings like curtains and blinds, has opened a new factory after a £0.25m investment.

And Bedwin Soft Furnishing, which is based on Newry Road Kilkeel, said it also plans to grow its workforce from 21 to 26.

The firm said the expansion had also enabled it to win new contracts including a two storey fit-out for Liberty Insurance in Dublin, as well as contracts at Queen's University and a primary school in Rostrevor.

It's also planning on recruiting new sales agents.

As well as making curtains and blinds, it also supplies fabrics and giftware and was founded by Ossie and Pamela Wallace in 1984. It expanded to operate a shop in Banbridge after buying Walker's Fine Furnishings in the town.

Their son Chris - the firm's sales director - said: "We are proud to be making waves in an industry which once defined Northern Ireland.

"We now plan to increase manufacturing space this year with a new adjoining premises which will give us an additional 2,000 sq ft."

He said the recruitment of new staff "represents significant growth and a bright future for the business".

"In order to maintain our market share we knew that investment in equipment, premises and people was key, so this latest announcement represents just that."
