Malvern Primary in north Belfast's Shankill area will be the first school in the UK to take part in a plan developed by business advisers PwC to improve social mobility.

PwC will provide support for a breakfast club, balanced snacks and after-school coaching as well as links between the school, businesses and the community.

It follows on from an Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development report that surveyed 30 countries on global social mobility and found that the UK fell in the bottom half at 16th.

David Armstrong, partner at PwC NI, said: "We hope that this programme will provide a stable foundation upon which they can build in the future."
