A Newry company which specialises in robotic tank cleaning has invested £1m in equipment.

Re-Gen Robotics, which carries out cleaning for petrochemical firms, said it's bought a new tank cleaning robot and tanker, which will be delivered in October.

And it's also planning to take on four new staff to add to its existing workforce of 25 people.

Managing director Fintan Duffy said: "We are the only remotely controlled, 'no man entry' robotic tank cleaning company in the British Isles.

"Since our launch in spring, interest from the major oil companies based in Great Britain has been phenomenal."

He said the industry needed other methods of cleaning and inspection to avoid accidents. "Tank owners globally are increasingly looking for tank cleaning and waste product removal systems that can perform safe, efficient and cost-effective operations," Mr Duffy said.
