Co Derry electrical firm optimistic after boosting both jobs and profits

By Staff Reporter

A Co Derry electrical contractor has said it's created 14 jobs and increased profits to £3.16m during 2017.

Premier Electrics in Bellaghy said revenues for the year to 2017 had also reached £41.8m.

Company results have not yet been filed, but the firm said its most recent figures compared with an 18-month turnover figure of £51m for the previous reporting period, when post-tax profits reached £1.95m. It now has around 60 employees.

Founder and chairman Mark Scullion said the firm was now a "European business", carrying out work in France, Germany and Spain, as well as the UK and Ireland.

And he said an uplift in construction in Belfast, Dublin and London had helped improve sales during the year.

It's working on two schemes in Belfast - a revamp of River House and a retail scheme in Donegall Place.

Tony Shivers, managing director, said retailers were proceeding with expansion plans. "Whilst the broad construction environment continues to be challenging and we, like other companies, will face challenges as a result of Brexit, our strong order book and excellent team give me confidence."
