Co Down firm Mash Direct lands new Qatar deal

By John Mulgrew

Northern Ireland vegetable farm and processor Mash Direct has landed a deal to sell its products into a Middle East hypermarket chain.

The Co Down firm will sell a range of its products to Lulu stores in Qatar from Friday.

Mash Direct has been trading from its Comber base since 2004 and is run by Martin Hamilton with wife Tracy and sons Lance and Jack.

Jack Hamilton said: "This is great news for us at Mash Direct. We have been exporting to the United Arab Emirates for about two years now and it is very positive to see that our Northern Irish brand is going down so well with the Middle Eastern market.

"It goes to show that having a healthy, convenient and tasty product goes down well with consumers anywhere in the world."

In the last 10 years, Mash Direct has transformed a small range, including mashed potato and carrot and parsnip, into a varied selection of food products which are now being exported to places like the Middle East and elsewhere in Europe.
