Agents hope to bowl over buyers with the sale of Downpatrick cricket clubhouse
The clubhouse at Downpatrick Cricket Club in Co Down has gone on the market for lease or sale. The venue, a popular social destination in the area, is available for rent or for sale.
Gavin Weir of GVA NI - one of the agents with joint instructions to market the property - said the club itself was remaining in place but no longer makes full use of the venue.
He said the 7,000 sq ft club on Strangford Road outside the town had a guide price of £400,000.
It's made up of a large bar/restaurant, a commercial kitchen and a large function room with accommodation. Mr Weir said: "Like other sports clubs, they have found the club house is surplus to requirements so they want to partner up by selling or leasing the complex.
"But it is important to stress that the club will remain."
And he said a couple of approaches had already been received from potential buyers.
"There is the possibility of a couple of different uses for it. It could continue to be used for the hospitality sector, or for day care, or even for use by a church group.
"We are asking for expressions of interest in it as it can be adapted for so many different end uses."
Stephen Sloan, a member of staff at the club, said it was a popular social venue. It had hosted Strictly Come Dancing fundraising nights and fun days, he said. "Everyone would come in here," he added.
Iain McCabe of agents OKT is also instructed to seek expressions of interest. There is also on-site parking at the club.
Proposals for use of the club to be received in writing by 12pm on Friday, April 29.
