Company report: Lynn's Country Foods

By John Simpson

Lynn's Country Foods is registered in Downpatrick and trades in artisan venison and processed meat products.

Its sales are principally through large multiple retailers.

The company emphasises that it is committed to the development of innovation-led food products and puts significant resources into that activity to sustain a reputation as a premier award-winning manufacturer of processed food products.

This development effort is reflected in spending on research and development which cost £375,000 in the year to August 2015 and £700,000 in the more recent year.

Capital spending by the company has been held at a significant level, reaching £8.7m in 2015 and £8m in the year to August 2016.

The main trading results in recent years have registered improving turnover and good trading margins which were highest in the year to August 2016.

Employment numbers have increased notably in the last three years, rising to 303 people more recently: an increase of 24% in the year.

Since the company has not recommended the payment of dividends, the balance sheet value of shareholders' funds has increased in line with the post-tax retention of profits.
