Event celebrates economic contributions on International Women's Day

By Staff Reporter

Businesses have marked International Women's Day with a series of events to celebrate women's contribution to the economy.

Accountancy firm BDO Northern Ireland brought together senior figures from the province's main business groups - which are now all led by women.

The Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce and Industry is headed by chief executive Ann McGregor, while her counterpart at the Institute of Directors is Kirsty McManus.

Angela McGowan leads the CBI in Northern Ireland, while Tina McKenzie was recently appointed policy chair to the Federation of Small Businesses in Northern Ireland.

And today, the IoD will hold its annual leadership conference at the Crowne Plaza hotel. Skincare guru Liz Earle will be the main speaker at the event, while Flybe chief Christine Ourmieres-Widender will also address delegates.

A series of panel sessions will focus on innovation, emotional intelligence and how to stand out in traditionally male-dominated industries. Five entrepreneurs will also have the chance to pitch for support for their ideas.
