Family businesses to be showcased at Energia awards ceremony
Multi-generational businesses across Northern Ireland have been urged to enter the Energia Family Business Awards.
The awards, which will culminate in a ceremony in Dublin's Mansion House on May 24, are open to businesses across the island.
According to a recent study from business advisory firm Deloitte, family businesses in Ireland tend to be more agile than their peers, and are also more likely to innovate.
And further research by PwC found that 70% of family businesses on the island had grown during 2018, highlighting the importance of family firms to the economy.
Key local family-run companies include retail and wholesale firm Henderson Group, shipfitting company MJM Marine and hospitality giant Beannchor.
Judges of the awards include Glyn Roberts, chief executive of Retail NI; JJ O'Connell, national director and co-chair of Family Business Ireland, and Mark Christal of Enterprise Ireland.
Katherine O'Riordan, event director for the Family Business Awards, said: "We encourage generational businesses from all across Northern Ireland to enter this year's prestigious awards.
"We would like to acknowledge and highlight the amount of family businesses that continue to operate in Ireland, in trying times.
"This is the first year the awards have been held and I would encourage businesses old and new to show us all they have achieved."
Categories include Energia Sustainable Family Business of the Year, sponsored by Energia; Food and Drink Producer of the Year, sponsored by Baker Tilly; International Family Business of the Year, sponsored by Enterprise Ireland; Manufacturing/Engineering Family Business of the Year, sponsored by Intertrade Ireland; Tech Family Business of the Year; Family Business Longevity Award, sponsored by Matheson; Hospitality Family Business of the Year, sponsored by Elavon; and Family Business CSR Award.
