Firm planning extension to airport hotel

By John Mulligan

Hotel owner and operator Tifco is planning a multi-million euro extension to its Crowne Plaza near Dublin Airport. It intends to add 60 new bedrooms in a five-storey extension.

It is the latest in a string of hotel extension projects being undertaken by owners and operators in the Republic's capital as they seek to cash in on strong occupancy figures and high room rates.

Owners of hotels close to the airport in particular have been active for the past couple of years adding new rooms to existing properties.

Tifco owns and operates close to 30 hotels in Ireland and it's the Republic's second-largest hotel group after Dalata, which is soon to open its fourth hotel in Northern Ireland.

Last year, Tifco also took over the company that operates the Travelodge franchise here.
