First 'digital ambassador' is recruited by council

By Staff Reporter

Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council has appointed its first digital ambassador.

A spokesman said the borough's 'digital transformation' will now be looked after by 'NI tech leader' Aaron Taylor.

Mr Taylor is a founding member of Belfast's Ormeau Baths start-up hub and is managing partner at Frankly, a venture development company.

An adviser to several start-up tech and digital companies in London and Belfast, Mr Taylor was also a co-founder of the tech event ICONS Festival.

The council, which earlier this year pitched for and secured £2.4m of UK government funding to help increase broadband speeds and boost borough-wide connectivity, has developed a new a digital strategy.

ABC said its strategy will be delivered through working with firms in the sector including Catalyst Inc, formerly known as the Northern Ireland Science Park, as well as universities and colleges.

It will involve the development of a three-year delivery plan headed by Mr Taylor.
