Food critic sets up reward initiative for cordon venues

Restaurant goers who have supported hospitality businesses within the cordon area of Belfast city centre could receive a "honours award" as a part of a new business initiative.

The drive to promote and boost the trade of restaurants that have felt the financial impact of the Primark fire in August was set up by Belfast Telegraph restaurant critic Joris Minne "in response to appeals from local restaurants immediately adjacent to the cordon".

It will see 10 loyal restaurant goers or those who have ventured into the area after the fire take away a "member of the Cordon Busters" medal.

"The award is open to any diners who eat out at one of the city's 'restaurants of the cordon'. These are Jumon, La Taqueria, Mourne Seafood Bar, The Sagart, Manny's, Havana Bank Square, Pizza Boutique, Obento, West and Maggie May's," said Mr Minne.

To receive a medal, Mr Minne and members of the new Belfast City Cordon Busters will select from those who submit images of their receipts from participating restaurants to Mr Minne's Twitter account via direct message @jorisminne. The scheme closes tomorrow at 2pm.
