Gardening chain is new Connswater anchor

By Staff Reporter

Home and gardening chain The Range is set to create 80 jobs when it opens at Connswater Shopping Centre and Retail Park at the end of this month.

Alfred Street Properties, owner of the east Belfast centre and retail park, announced the chain will become its anchor store when it opens on December 29 in a total investment of £3m.

And last week Home Bargains also opened up its 20,000 sq ft superstore at the retail park.

The Range already operates stores in Ballymena and Londonderry. Alfred Street Properties - formerly known as Killultagh Estates - said the opening marked a £2m investment by The Range and a £1m investment by the landlord.

It sells goods ranging from homeware and arts and crafts to plants.

Laura McCarthy, property asset manager of Alfred Street Properties Ltd, said: "It is anticipated that The Range will be the catalyst to increase footfall at the centre to 100,000 per week.

"The fact they have chosen Connswater to be their first Belfast store is a big coup for the shopping centre. With Home Bargains also opening we have a fantastic line-up for over Christmas and we wish both retailers well for the coming peak trading period."
