Lidl and Tesco lead grocery growth in NI supermarkets
Lidl and Tesco are continuing to forge ahead in Northern Ireland supermarket growth. Tesco continues to lead the way on market share, increasing it to 35% in the 52 weeks to September 2017, according to Kantar Worldpanel.
The supermarket has around 50 stores here.
Meanwhile, Lidl had the fastest growth in terms of sales here, which are up 7.2%, year-on-year.
Kantar Worldpanel director David Berry said: “The Northern Irish grocery market has experienced strong year-on-year sales growth of 1.9%.
“Tesco continues to increase its share of the market, with shoppers visiting the retailer 59 times throughout the year, up from an average of 57 trips in 2016.
“The fastest growing retailer, Lidl increased sales by 7.2% year-on-year. This strong performance is attributable to shoppers spending slightly more on products that are a little more expensive, as average pack prices increased by 3.7%.
