New buyers wanted for British Steel
The Insolvency Service is to seek out other potential buyers for British Steel after exclusive talks with Ataer Holdings came to an end.
Ataer, which is controlled by the Turkish military pension fund, first expressed an interest in saving the company in August and is still "very much interested in acquiring the business", the official receiver in charge of the sale claimed.
The news is expected to cause concern among British Steel's 5,000 staff, including 70 at its service centre in Lisburn.
The company is indirectly responsible for 20,000 workers in the supply chain.
British Steel produces around 2.5m tonnes of steel a year.
