A Co Tyrone construction company has confirmed it is to build nearly 60 new 'eco-friendly homes' in a £6m investment. Western Homes - part of the Western Building Systems Group - is constructing the houses at Derrywinnen Heights off Bush Road in Dungannon.

Shane Canavan of Western Building Systems said the timber-framed homes would meet a "pent-up" demand for houses in Dungannon.

"We know there is a strong demand for high quality, affordable housing in the Dungannon area.

"The location of these new homes makes them a sensible choice for those wishing to commute to local towns such as Cookstown or Dungannon or further afield to Belfast with their proximity to the M1."

Timber-framed homes are regarded as environmentally-friendly as the methods of harvesting and transporting timber are less harmful to the environment than other materials.

Western Building Systems is based in Coalisland and employs around 50 people.
