Newtownards scheme to file for second phase as new homes sell in minutes

By Emma Deighan

The latest phase of Newtownards housing development Rivenwood sold out in 10 minutes, it has emerged.

The new Rivenwood development at Movilla Road in Newtownards was launched early last year and has already sold 80 properties.

And, as the New England style village development launched its latest phase last week, home buyers camped out three days in advance to snap up a property.

The Fraser Houses development is home to Northern Ireland's only designer show village which has already welcomed around 3,000 visitors since opening in February 2017.

The site, which has homes ranging in price from £145,000 for a two-bedroom property to £200,000 for a four-bed detached house, may be due for expansion as the developer has submitted a further planning application for a second phase for which work could begin in a matter of months.

Simon Brien from Simon Brien Residential, selling agents for Rivenwood, said: "The show village at Rivenwood opened in February 2017 and was one of the most successful show house launches ever in Northern Ireland with several thousand people attending in the first two months. The show village incorporates four different house types being offered for sale."

The demand for new builds across NI is further supported by the launch of two other housing projects to build nearly 100 homes in Comber and Dundonald.

Last week the Belfast Telegraph revealed that Banbridge-based Lotus Homes launched an application for 70 new homes at a new development in Comber which will be called The Founders.

And Ballyclare-based family firm Hagan Homes also announced that it will build 28 apartments and create 50 jobs in a £3.5m development nearby.

The firm, which is one of Northern Ireland's biggest housebuilders, is starting work on 28 two-bed apartments at Loughan Hall on Comber Road in Dundonald.

Eden Contractors, led by Arthur King, is to carry out the work on Loughan Hall, while Rodgers & Finney has been appointed estate agents to sell the homes.

The Founders in Comber is the latest housebuilding project from Lotus Homes and would be located at Ballygowan Road.

A pre-application consultation event takes place in Comber on Thursday.
