Claire Hunter says the Marine Hotel in Ballycastle had been primed for a busy summer

Claire Hunter, co-owner of Ballycastle's Marine Hotel, has said summer 2020 was set to have been her busiest season ever.

Mrs Hunter and business partner Colum McLornan bought the property seven years ago, investing heavily in a renovation taking it close to a four-star rating.

She said a further £20,000 spend to promote a new events space will go to waste as a result of the forced closure following the Covid-19 lockdown.

"It's really gutting and disappointing that we are closed," she said. "We had been building up to get a share of the conference and cruise market and it was looking really well. But what matters most now is everyone's safety and health."
