North coast hotel plans expansion and new jobs
A north coast hotel has announced plans to extend and create 30 new jobs as it enjoys a boost in visitors.
The Bayview Hotel in Portballintrae said it will almost double its room numbers and add to its workforce of 42. It's been open since the early 1900s and is close to historic sights like Dunluce Castle, Bushmills Distillery and the Giant's Causeway.
The hotel has 25 rooms at the moment but will add another 20 by summer next year.
Owner Trevor Kane said more recent attractions such as locations used in the filming of fantasy TV series Game of Thrones, as well as sporting events, were drawing new visitors.
It's expanding after securing a loan from Barclays Bank, whose relationship director Christopher Murray said its support for the business reflected its focus on SMEs.
He added: "We are seeing the steady growth of the hotel tourism and hospitality sector locally and the resulting potential for the hotel is a great opportunity for them."
Mr Kane said the company has further ambitious plans. "Following completion of our phase one expansion, we also have plans to build a new restaurant underneath the hotel, which would look out over the bay through large windows constructed into the cliff face. It's an ambitious project, but one we're very excited about."
