One-sixth of NI adults are living with serious debt
Almost 16% of adults in Northern Ireland are living with problem debts, according to new research.
More than eight million people across the UK are living with serious debts, according to the Money Advice Service (MAS).
In some parts of the UK, more than one in five adults are “over-indebted”.
Newham and Tower Hamlets in London were identified as particular debt hotspots. And in Northern Ireland, 15.8% of people are said to be “over-indebted”, the report found.
Sheila Wheeler, director of debt at the MAS, said: “Debt is a complex challenge and one that needs a collaborative approach if we are to successfully address it.”
