A Portadown woman who spent a fortune on a dress for a wedding has turned her experience into a business.

Charlene Murdoch realised there was a gap in the market in the town, so with funds built up during Covid, she set up Designer Dolls Dress Hire.

Charlene said: “I’ve worked in accounts for around 15 years, but I decided to open my own business on the side in the hope that it could become a more permanent thing.

“During lockdown I luckily managed to save a bit of money, and afterwards I attended a wedding and spent a complete fortune on the outfit, having met a couple of girls there who had hired dresses,

“I thought it was a really great idea.”

She received support from the Go For It Programme, which matches business mentors with start ups, and from Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council.

Go For It is part funded by Invest Northern Ireland and the European Regional Development Fund.
