Poundworld will continue to trade in Northern Ireland

By Michelle Weir

Northern Ireland's 12 Poundworld branches will stay open for now despite closures in Britain by administrators Deloitte.

Deloitte said Poundworld Retail will shut 25 stores on July 15, resulting in the redundancy of 242 employees.

However, no stores here are affected.

The administrators say that this decision will not impact on the potential sale of the remaining business.

Discussions are said to be continuing with interested parties, with offers received in respect of a "significant number" of stores, including the company's head office and distribution centre in Yorkshire.

Clare Boardman, joint administrator, said it remained hopeful that a sale for part of the business could still be achieved. Discussions are continuing.
